Shine Bright: Overcoming Complaining with Gods Word

To truly please God and walk in His ways, you need the Holy Spirit active at all times in your life. How do you achieve this? By staying in the Word, being prayed up, knowing what His Word says, and being doers of the Word, not hearers only.

Philippians 2:13-15 says, “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him. Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.”

From a scientific perspective, repeated complaining causes your brain to be rewired to complain more. Over time, you might find yourself becoming more negative regardless of what’s happening around you. Complaining becomes your brain’s default setting, causing others to see you as a complainer or a negative person. Have you ever been around someone who’s always complaining or negative? Do you enjoy their company? Personally, I’m ready to leave because there is no light. We are called to be the light because He is the light. Our light should shine even in our thoughts and speech.

So, how do you change this? Romans 12 teaches you to renew your mind and change how you think. Change your thoughts, and you will change your view and your speech. Start declaring, “My words are seasoned with grace. I will speak in line with the Word of God and what He says about situations and people.” Colossians 4:6 says, “Let your speech always be seasoned with salt so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”

1 Peter 3:8-12 paraphrases this message: Be of one mind. Be sympathetic. Love people. Be tenderhearted and humble. Don’t repay evil with evil or retaliate with insults. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. If you want to enjoy life and see happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good. Search for peace and maintain it. The Lord watches over those who do right and listens to their prayers.

So, what does this have to do with complaining? Everything. When you complain about life, your job, your boss, your coworkers, your spouse, your children, the world, politics, your church, or people, you are not of one mind. You can’t be sympathetic or walk in love because there is no positivity or alignment with the Word of God. Do you see what I’m saying? Complaining keeps you closed off from walking in blessings and opens you to defeat. No one wants to be around someone who is always complaining or negative.

If you want to reflect Jesus in your life, your workplace, your home, and your church, you have to be doers of the Word. If you want to live a peaceful life full of joy and love, enjoy the presence of others, and build up fellowship in a way that pleases the Lord, you have to stop complaining and arguing. You are called to be the light of the world. What others see and hear from you reflects who they see. Are you portraying the old image, which died when you became born again, or the reborn image?

If you find yourself being a complainer, repent and start a new journey. God is on your side. He loves you. He’s not mad at you. You can enjoy peace, joy, and His power, and live in a way that pleases Him, because He wants you to walk in blessings.
